Scott Huegerich Wins Emmy Award (Again)

Antidote’s Scott Huegerich recently earned his 15th regional Emmy Award for his co-directing efforts with collaborative partner, Bob Miano.  The dynamic duo were awarded golden statues for their documentary “Joe Jones: Radical Painter of the American Scene.”  Other Emmy nominees included Antidote’s Mike Radentz (Sound Design) and Laura Tomlinson (Writer).

Joe Jones began his career as a "radical" artist in St. Louis and by 1935 he was being written about on the pages of Time magazine. Jones famously said that he didn't want to paint pretty pictures to match pink and blue walls; he wanted to punch holes in walls.  His paintings of worker protests, poverty and lynchings certainly did that. Jones rose to fame in the 30's and 40's as a "self taught" artist after beginning his career as a housepainter alongside his one-armed father. His is a fascinating story, and it's a story that has played out countless times with other young, struggling, controversial artists.
